Hi!

We are getting there. And everyone is excited and waiting for departure time. We have had pre-departure classes, and assignments in preparation for our trip. But as important, we have had long and interesting chats with the group members, looking at maps, checking places, enjoying pictures, and, surely, talking about food.

So, while visiting with us, we took some pictures in random order.

Students in the Urban Leadership preparation and ECEE programs are ready for a journey that will take us to the coastal city of Lima and the Andean city of Cusco, in Peru. They will be learning about international perspectives of leadership preparation with emphasis on leadership development, as well as primary education in Peru. Moreover, they will expand their understanding of these topics in a different context—Cusco—where the majority of the population speaks Quechua.

In our work we will have constant interaction with faculty and scholars at the Catholic University, and the University of the Pacific, as well as other institutions. We will also be visiting local schools, as well as having interviews with local educational administrators. In Cusco, we will pay a visit to one of the oldest secondary schools in the country--the Colegio de Ciencias.

In addition to these academic activities, our learning will be enhanced by our visit to the colonial and modern parts of Lima, a city on the Pacific coast re-founded by the Spaniards in 1535. Lima has been proclaimed a World Heritage Centre by the UNESCO. While in Cusco we will visit the "lost city of the Incas," the sanctuary of Machu Picchu (Old Mountain, in Quechua,) also a World Heritage Centre and one of the seven Wonders of the World. In addition, we will have a day visit to Ollantaytambo.
